Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to you as your neighbour about a situation that has been causing me a good deal of inconvenience at home.
Since [Date the nuisance began] I have been affected by the following:
[What the nuisance consists of]
I accept that this may be happening without your being aware of the effect it has on the other side of the wall, and I would far rather settle it between us than involve anyone else. I am happy to talk it through at a time that suits you.
I would ask you to take steps within fourteen days to bring the nuisance to an end. If it continues, I will keep a written record of each occurrence and will raise the matter with the housing provider and, if necessary, with the local authority, which has powers to act where a nuisance persists.
I hope that will not prove necessary and that we can resolve this between ourselves.
Yours faithfully,
[Your name]
